Pairing Fodder;

I don't completely understand fangirl's obsession with pairing their favorite characters up. However, I must admit that I'm pretty much guilty as charged. Here, I'm going to go over my thoughts and opinions on various pairings that I see in the fandom. Be prepared for crack in the following paragraphs. Mmmm crack!

Sharon and Jan

This is of course, the only truly canon pairing related to Ziggy without any questions left to the player. Sharon is a beautiful character and a very strong, loving, woman. She brings out so much in Jan and I think they make an adorable couple.I can go on and on about the signifigance of this relationship an it's impact on his character, but that has a section of it's own. Sadly, not enough people write or draw this pairing. This is probably because a majority of the English speaking fandom hasn't read the translation or played the game. Sure, they've probably heard about it. But nobody really likes Ziggy, so they don't care to know about his past.

Juli and Ziggy

This pairing is probably the most frequent one I see him in now-a-days in the fandom. I feel that Juli and Ziggy compliment eachother very well. They've both been through very similar circumstances and they both help eachother grow in during the course of the games. I do think that eventually, after the end of the game, the two of them would end up together. However, after everything they had been through it would take a lot of time, patience, coaxing and encouragement. Ziggy still has some personal demons to overcome. However, at the end of the game, he's taken steps to finally correct them. I really think the both of them would make a great couple and be supportive and wonderful parents for MOMO. However, this pairing isn't exactly made as obvious. So it's left to the player to decide whether or not this will work out in the end. I'm very optimistic however.

Shion and Ziggy

Can I say guilty pleasure? Though, I won't say that I think this pairing is at all canon. I will say that I'm sort of fond of it, in that whole "crack pairing" sort of way. I know all us fangirls have them. This pairing is pretty much derived from Shion's dependancy on Ziggy during the series. There really isn't anything else there besides trust and friendship. That being, friendship is a bit of a stretch for Ziggy at the state he is at the start of the game. There's also all kinds of screenshots of him physically supporting Shion while she has her fainting spells. I think it's kind of cute, but it's nothing I'd get super-giddy about.

MOMO and Ziggy

UGH! Every once in awhile, I actually see this pairing. I mean, we're not talking father and daughter interactions. I'm talking full blown Marvin Gaye is playing in the background, It's getting hot in here interactions. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!? Sure, the relationship that MOMO and Ziggy share in canon is very close and endearing. However, this is a big dark 72pt extra bold and blinking line that shouldn't be crossed. MOMO is the embodiment of purity during the series There's no way he'd want to do anything like that to her. He's not a pedo! MOMO may not be a real human being, but she is still very much a child. Ziggy is still a human being, depsite the fact that he was turned into a cyborg. He still has the brain of a human and human parts. He's also 128 years old! Do I even need to mention that if this pairing were to exist in the real world, someone would get thrown into jail? Is it the wrongness factor that turns people onto this? I'm not even sure.

KOS-MOS and Ziggy

I do see this pairing happen from time to time. I suppose it's a little interesting since they're both very much robotic with a bit of human inside of them. Although, moreso in Ziggy's case than KOS-MOS. Perhaps this pairing sprung up because of Ziggy resucing KOS-MOS on the Elsa in Episode I, and for aforementioned reasons. I'm not really sure where I stand on this one, but it's certianly interesting.

Junior and Ziggy

I don't understand yaoi fangirls. Not only do they like to pair Junior up with poor Allen, they also want to pair him up with Ziggy. Maybe it's because of their interactions during the game that makes it seem like a Eiri Yuki and Shuichi Shindou thing going on here? I really, honestly, don't know. I know Ziggy doesn't even think of Junior that way, nor does Junior see Ziggy in that light. Junior sees him as a cold and detached old man who's full of surprizes. ...But then again, I think that may be it. Surprize! Ziggy's been alive for 128 years and suddenly, he's decided it's time to come out of the maintainance closet! Junior's just fed up with the womens, so he decides he needs a robotic bed buddy. Okay, I'm scaring myself now. Really, seriously, I think that's enough.

Voyager and Ziggy

Oh man, where I do begin with this one? I never really imagined that I would see people pair these two up. But you know, when you think about the dialouge which took place in Episode III, and even Ziggy's database entry, it's just dripping with innuendo. I mean, what self-respecting fangirl wouldn't manage to snerk at it? Furthermore, watching that whole conclusion of Ziggy's story with him in the Mankini was just... wow. I have no words. It seriously looked like Voyager was trying to pull his goggles off. Though... I totally say that Ziggy is seme in this pairing I mean, he was the captian wasn't he? Or maybe Voyager is now, since he has that whole control of space-time. Better watch your back Ziggy!
